Hey guys,
I hope you're having a great week. This week's Thought comes from the first part of the book of Numbers. I know that Numbers probably isn't the place that people really go in Scripture for a good time, right? They're not going to Numbers if they’re just looking for some light reading. Numbers is the backstory of Moses leading the children of Israel out of Egypt and to the Promised Land. It's the nuts and bolts of that story: the divisions of labor among the tribes of Israel, and the specific jobs that God gives the priests. We also find the specific dimensions and what was to be included in the Tabernacle, which would ultimately be the design for the Temple. Both were the place where God dwelt among His people before Jesus.
Even in the midst of all of those specific and tedious requirements, the phrase kept coming up, “They did just as the Lord commanded.” I went back and looked at just a small sample size from the end of chapter four to the beginning of chapter five (14 verses) and that phrase was repeated five different times!
“They did just as the Lord commanded.” Sometimes, it was talking about the people. Sometimes it was talking about Moses, and sometimes it was referring to the priests. Regardless, “They did just as the Lord commanded.” So, I couldn't help but wonder, does that describe me? Do I do just as the Lord commands me? Unfortunately, that's not always the case.
So, I want to ask you two questions:
If you don't do what God commands you, why? Is it because you don't know what He commands? Are you investigating those things? Are you pursuing His commands to know what that means and looks like in your life? Or, are there too many distractions in your life to keep you from hearing God's direction and God's commands in your life?
Following God's commands is hard. There will be resistance because the enemy does not want you to follow God's commands on your life. So following God's commands requires boldness. Are you willing to say yes, no matter what that looks like…no matter what the feedback is…no matter where that takes you?
Love you guys.
John
