Hey guys,
I hope you're having a great week. I have finished the book of Numbers, and have headed into Deuteronomy. Today’s Thought comes from Deuteronomy chapter two. This phrase shows up in two different verses, 13 and 24. It is three simple words from God to Moses. “Now get moving.” That may seem like a very simple message, and it is, but when you consider the context, it's incredibly profound.
The nation of Israel was on the cusp of entering the Promised Land, the land that God promised Abraham 500 years earlier! God miraculously led them out of Egypt by striking the Egyptians with ten different plagues. Then, they were stuck on the shores of the Red Sea with Pharaoh’s army barreling down. God intervened and they walked through the Sea on dry ground! They were on the cusp of entering the Promised Land 40 years prior to this moment, and they disobeyed God, so he caused them to wander for 40 more years.
So, there they were, at the end of the 40 years of wandering, the end of their punishment, the end of what they'd known for a generation. Then God says, “Now get moving.”
Again, a simple, basic command, but incredibly profound. I couldn't help but wonder how many times God has looked at me and said, “Okay, now get moving.” Maybe, I've gotten into a rut, maybe I've gotten into a rhythm, or I've gotten into something that I'm comfortable with. God says, “Now get moving. Do something new. Head somewhere new. Do something fresh. Grow my kingdom by letting me do a work in and through your life.”
I don't have any idea what that looks like in your life. I don't know what steps you need to take next. I don’t know what the next thing is for you, but if you find yourself being comfortable, or even stagnant, God is saying, “Now, get moving.”
Love you guys.
John
