Weekly Thoughts From Outside the Boat

Hey guys,

This week’s Thought comes from 1 Peter 4:14, 16. There Peter says, “If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you will be blessed, because the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you…but it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name.”

There are several points here:

Number one, if we are insulted for His name, there is a blessing to come.

Number two, if we belong to Him, the Holy Spirit of God rests upon us. Let that sink in, and let that help you walk boldly AND humbly through your day.

Number three, there's no shame to suffer for the name of Christ. First, you need to expect suffering if you are following Jesus in your daily life, and instead of running from it, embrace it. There's no shame in suffering when you bear His name.

Number four, praise God for the privilege of being called by His name.

Now here is the deep, incredibly theological lesson I want to teach you today. I’m ashamed to say it hit me for the first time as I read this passage again. The word Christ, Jesus Christ's name is, wait for it, in the word Christian!

So, if you are a follower of Jesus, if you call yourself a Christian, you bear His name! That is a privilege, but also a challenge. Live a life worthy of His name.

Love you guys,John
